Service Description
Russ has 32 years of experience playing guitar. He performs throughout California in various bands and with numerous styles of music including: Top 40, all styles of rock (including classic, metal, grunge, 50s, 60s, and more), blues, funk, R&B, jazz and world jazz, flamenco fusion, and instrumental fusion. Russ studied music at Los Medanos College and continued his musical education by studying under Joe Satriani, Doug Doppler and Brian Pardo from The Jazz School in Berkeley, CA. During his 26 years of teaching guitar, Russ has worked with students of all ages, from as young as five all the way up to adults, and teaches all levels, both individual and group. Russ's curriculum includes reading notation, chords, scales, theory, improvisation, harmony, ear training, rhythm guitar, and lead guitar. Due to Russ' extensive experience, he can quickly evaluate a student's musical strengths and weaknesses in order to develop an individualized program to assist students in meeting their musical goals. Russ' lessons are both differentiated and flexible to match students' learning styles, motivation levels and musical interests. Having students recognize their own progress is a key component to every lesson. It allows students to celebrate their successes, no matter how small, because learning an instrument is a lifelong journey. Russ has a self-published book called Heavy Metal Mechanics. For private lessons: If you need to reschedule, please contact your teacher at least 24 hours before your scheduled lesson to be eligible for a free makeup. Group lessons are non-cancelable and non-refundable. If you're looking to discontinue your lessons, please notify your teacher and contact us 48 hours before the first of the month to avoid being charged.
